HEART TRANSPLANT

VITAL ORGAN HARVESTING

It was the year 1967, in fact more precisely it was on the 3 December of 1967 when Dr Christiaan Barnard, the world renown South African cardiac surgeon firmly placed Groote Schuur Hospital as well as the City of Cape Town on the map with the first successful human heart transplant.

However, even though this was a magnificent feat, Dr James Hardy of Mississippi Medical Center, beat Christiaan to the punch some three years earlier. Unfortunately the donor chimpanzee heart transplanted by Dr Harvy stopped beating within 90 minutes of the transplant, whilst inside the recipient's chest. The transplant was a failure and declared unsuccessful.

Organ transplants and its type of surgery wasn't at all what it was made out to be, because Barnard's patient - Louis Washkansky, died within 18 days of the heart transplant. The cause of death was blamed on double pneumonia even though Washkansky braved rejection medication and steroids. However, the heart transplant was considered a success globally, taking into account the patient survived unaided by electronic apparatus for this length of time.

The Human Heart

The name Dr Christiaan Barnard shot to world fame trailing along with it the theatre of Groote Schuur Hospital, but that wasn't the only thing it dragged behind. Suddenly there was a host of unanswered questions and issues of unethical medical behavior, prejudice, racism, deceit, lies and a cover up perhaps even murder.

Barnards medical achievement paved the way for the future for the multi million dollar human organ transplant industry that followed. This gave rise to numerous fascinating stories of young girls waking-up in a bath of blood stained ice water after a blind date only to find that she was minus one kidney. Numerous children were also found dead in fields with their liver or other vital organs missing which was subsequently blamed on Sangomas and African Witch Craft, but we all can imagine what may really have happened. Organ harvesting has become big business among unethical medical professionals since. Be assured these are not urban legends but newsworthy events. Apartheid South Africa was not the place to be if you were non-white nor just be there at that point in time, with its abundant stories of numerous persons arrested by white police never to be seen again - perhaps harvested. South Africa even had its own medical doctor called "Dr Death" during the apartheid era. Can you imagine that?

Anyway, this brings me to the controversy that snaps at me when looking at the facts of the world's first successful human heart transplant. The players are, Louis Washkansky, Denise Darvall, Hamilton Naki, Dr Chris Barnard, Dr Marius Barnard and the heart transplant team.
The question that begs to get answered is, Is there a remote possibility that Dr Chris Barnard and his team perhaps colluded to murder Denise Darvall for the sake of name and fame? Or is it all just coincidence.

GLYCONUTRIENTS

THE BEST MEDICINE EVER

There always seems to be controversy, Controversy 365 days per year, between those who live healthy and those who abuse their health, regarding the need to take vitamins and mineralsin fact, each and every person today really needs to take some form of vitamin supplements because our fresh produce, both fruit and vegetables do not have the nutritional value it contained just 20 years ago.

Pesticides and green harvesting has ruined its nutritional value and is the reason why so many of our foodstuffs contain some form of toxins. Even our grazing animals are all fed some sort of fish-meal mixed with their food, which we end up eating. Look at what happened during the Mad Cow epidemic, those poor cows were fed processed cow and sheep proteins which caused them to go mental. Just think of how many people there may be today who ate the controversial crazy meat, who didn't die of the toxins, but who are now subject to DNA changes which will affect their offspring and future generations. Virtually every person alive today has a compromised immune system even those who, eat organic food. Remember the old adage, "you have to watch what you eat", because "you are what you eat".

ENTER GLYCONUTRIENTS

Phytonutrients (plant nutrients) and Glyconutrients (Sugar nutrition) are available from numerous suppliers that promote wellness, but the best quality Glyconutrients, Phytonutrient, vitamins, minerals and trace elements are supplied by companies who grow their produce in hydroponic gels, impregnated with high levels of minerals and trace elements that produce composites from which these products are manufactured. These are generally much more expensive than the garden variety of vitamins and minerals on the market today but then again, I am sure you only deserve the best.

These products are essential nutrition since our bodies cannot synthesize them, and once consumed, will restore balance to the immune system, enhance inter-cellular and intra-cellular communication and promote overall health.

They are extremely rich in antioxidants and flavonoids for optimal health, that nothing on the market today can rival. They have been known to cure cancer, diabetes, Weber's syndrome, auto-immune diseases and so many others, eventhough this is not a medication but rather food in the same form we were designed to eat, our bodies are thus capable of healing itself from these nasty sickness and diseases.

SUGAR AND SPICE AND ALL THINGS NICE

Of late, my partner has been packing some extra weight, leading us to have a conversation about how she could slow down her horizontal growth. She was desperate to fit unto those snazzy outfits that hardly a month ago fitted like a glove. So, I happen to mention her love for sweet things and her total daily sugar intake. But as expected and which is quite normal for most people, she also takes offence when criticized. No one that's guilty of packing, likes to be accused of overdoing it in the food department especially if its absolutely true.

With the huge varieties of fresh cream cakes, desserts, toffees, chocolates, sodas, chocolate chip cookies, etc and all those other sweet... "feel good food" on offer, who can blame anyone for always wanting to have a little more.

Besides the sweet things in life, there is also the salty "feel good foods", you know, those always available and easily accessible fast foods, like potato chips, french fries, those 40cm puffy pizza bases buried under a mountain of cheese and meats, along with its fellow toppings, and all those other related pastas. Not to mention the deep fried chicken, kebabs on a stick, flamed grilled ribs, spicy biryanis, hot curries and tasty samosas etc...

Yep, I know its easy to loose your cool and self control around all those deliciously edible offerings, especially if eating is your crutch, to suppress those other issues you are trying so hard to hide. But issues aside, I need to revisit the sugar intake story. She also loves coffee, black strong and sweet, and she has at least 4 cups per day. So I did the math, 3 teaspoons sugar per cup, 4 times per day, totals 12 teaspoons of sugar daily. After counting out and discovering that 25 teaspoons of sugar fulls a regular tea cup, I concluded that she consumes no less than 3 cups of sugar per week in fact almost 4. That is a serious amount of sugar but it excludes the sugar found in all those previously mentioned chocolates and confectioneries.

All the sugar she consumes aside, she is a very sweet girl, so I needed to do my utmost to help her to roll-back to that sexy shape she had, prior to becoming a "shape shifter". Together we decided that two cups of coffee per day would have to suffice to satisfy her caffeine addiction and that 3 sugars per cup would have to reduced to 2. So, once again I did the math, 2 sugars per day trice daily totals 4 teaspoons of sugar, extrapolated to less than 1 cup of sugar per week. Wow, what an improvement!

Anyway, this is how the other part of the sugar story goes. Our bodies needs sugar but any surplus sugar not use daily, cannot however be stored for later use in the form of sugar. Instead our bodies converts this surplus sugar into fat. Our bodies are very efficient at making and storing fat because it can convert the fat back to sugar when it needs to, however because most of us replenish our expended sugar daily, our bodies has no reason to convert stored fat to sugar instead it just takes the excess sugar consumed daily and stores that too.

Fat is not a bad thing, the body needs fat, all our vital organs are cushioned in fat but its the excess fat that becomes a problem. Our bodies systematically store fat as a subcutaneous layer almost evenly spread throughout the body, now having done this, and having run out of space to store more fat, it starts storing fat as a second layers then a third, then a fourth, then a fifth, etc... Resulting in your waistline going from, say 28cm to 29cm to 30cm to 32cm etc, and where it stops is entirely upto you. By reducing your sugar intake by half, and assuming this new sugar intake level is below what the body requires daily, it will then be encouraged to convert the stored fat to sugar. This process causes weight loss, resulting in the waistline going in the other direction. Happiness is....

Optimal health is your greatest asset in life, so try to avoid sugar. Refined sugar (white sugar) is one of the worst forms of sugar we can take, so rather substitute sugar for honey as its sweeter than sugar and you'll also end up using less. By the way, sugar is not the only food stuff stored as fat, even a large baked potato (carbohydrates) if eaten when the body already has stored surplus fat, will not make use of that baked potato for energy but convert it into fat and guess what... one large potato is in fact equivalent to a cup of sugar.

Anyway, I will be keeping tabs on Missie and look forward to a decrement in her horizontal dimensions. Meanwhile do go visit the blogs below.

COLLAGEN PREVENTS WRINKLES

RESVERATROL

Grapes are but one of the fruits mentioned in the Bible, and in ancient Greece, it was called the food of the gods. Today with all the other fruits abound, grapes has taken second place to many. But ever since the discovery of the resveratrol and proanthocyanidins compounds in the skin and seeds of red grapes by scientists, there has been much hype about the protection it affords against cardiovascular disorders. Grape seed extract quickly became the the treatment for heart diseases such as high blood pressure and high cholesterol.

However, somehow these scientists didn't pay much attention to the flesh of the grape, in fact it was completely overlooked, since the flesh colour was fairly translucent, their attention was directed solely at its skin because of its anthocyanins -the red pigment in the skin that differentiates it from the white variety.

But soon thereafter it was discovered that this initial assumption that resveratrol and proanthocyanidins only exist in the skin and seed of Red Grapes, wasn't exactly correct. But that the flesh of the grapes also contain equivalent nutritive compounds with equivalent protection against stroke and heart attack, even though it does not contain any anthocyanins.

Resveratrol can be found in grapes of various colours

Some years later and a closer look by some other scientist, concluded that White Grapes are in fact just as beneficial as the Red variety and also affords the same exact identical protection against cardiovascular disorders. The common flavonoids found in red and white grapes are quercitin and resveratrol both of which are key nutrients necessary for maintaining good skin health. These promote the creation of collagen, which has long been known to keep our skin firm and healthy.

A lack of collagen will most certainly lead to premature wrinkles and sagging. Dr OZ on Opera spoke very highly of the anti aging effect of Grapes. So ladies don't forget the grapes, fresh grapes, please not the bottled kind.

Flavonoids, the enzyme that gives grapes its distinctive flavour function as antioxidants to maintain capillary walls and protect against infections. Antioxidant in grape is the natural pigments which protects us against molecular oxidation and free radicals. Meaning that grapes are not only good for you but beneficial to your overall health. It contains an abundance of Vitamins, minerals and other trace elements and is far more nutritive and tasty than its resveratrol extracted tabs.

FOOD SUPPLIMENTS

FOOD SUPPLIMENTS

The old saying "An apple a day keeps the doctor away" needs a serious revision if what medical science, is to be believed. Proponents in the scientific space says Vitamin Supplements is a load of nonsense. So lets retain our sanity and look at their implications and draw our own conclusions. Every medication out there manufactured by scientists either in tablet or capsule form has an active ingredient that gives it its efficacy, or at least science claims that. However, is its ridiculed that a vitamin C chewable for example, with ascorbic acid as its active ingredient, is frowned upon as useless and ineffective.

It must be understood that every substance consumed by the body which it cannot synthesize itself has an effect on it, some to a larger degree than others. Meaning if the active ingredient in an anabolic steroid taken orally is 2000 milligrams it will have a pronounced effect on the body over time and conversely if a 1 gram vitamin B1 (thiamine) is the active ingredient in a tablet taken orally, there seem to be no noticeable effects but that doesn't mean it doesn't work or done what it was meant to do. That's the difference between pharmaceutical and nutriceutical compounds.

So the reason why some voices in the scientific space is knocking vitamin supplements could be two fold, either they fear that the popularity of vitamin supplements is going to erode their profit margins when their clients retain good health and therefore have no use for their medications or that for fear of being exposed as liars and cheats for keeping the truth about health away from the masses for so long. This is exactly the sentiments of Dr. Matthias Rath, a pro nutritionist, who says in one of his arguments against pharmaceutical drugs, “The Third World War is a global misinformation war lead by the multi-billion dollar pharmaceutical investment business with disease against all mankind.”

Our bodies are amaizing bio-chemical engines but cannot make vitamins, so a deficiency of vitamins presents itself as an illness in the human body, either as a skin rash, headaches, stomach cramps or pain etc... in order for us to take notice and do something about it. But instead of looking towards better nutrition we look towards pharmaceutical concoctions that suppress our immune systems thereby removing the symptoms described above but it fails too heal us. In fact no doctor can heal you, your body heals itself if given the essential and necessary ingredients to do so, only found in whole foods.

Vitamins and minerals are present in whole foods like fruits and vegetables and the other food groups but because of modern farming practises destroys vitamins, we do not get sufficient vitamins and minerals in our diets. But, all is not lost, we have two options to get a sufficient amount of vitamin we need. We can either eat seven helpings of fruit and vegetables each and every day without fail or we can take vitamin supplements in tablet form for optimal health. If we don't we will essentially be like cows ans spend the better part of our day chewing.

Vitamins and minerals are tiny chemical molecules found in whole foods which react with our living cells to create some 55 000 enzymes in our bodies for its proper functionality. Amongst which are salivary glands for pre-treatment of food to make chyme, digestive enzymes in our Gastro Intestinal track for breaking down our food and metabolic enzymes for our organs, blood and other body cells and endocrine system to proper hormone production.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT

FOOD FOR THOUGHT

Our bodies are the most amazing bio-chemical machines that roam God's green earth. Ok, ok... the animal too, but this is about us. Our bodies are so amazing, they are capable of consuming nutritional substances from the earth and after processing it, can reproduce it in the form of literature, technological gadgetry, etc.. for our own benefit. Just think of it, the thoughts we conjure up are in fact by products of food we ate which originated from the earth in the form of meat and fruit and vegetables.

That car you driving was such a thought, the house you are living in was such a thought and so was the computer you're reading this from, before they were not. Scientists call this matter, but does it really matter what we call it? Some say its energy, since energy cannot be used up or destroyed it changes is state and form. Lets look at gasoline fuel for instance. It's a form of energy which is transformed by the cars engine to produce speed and distance for our benefit, but the fumes it releases, are in fact still gasoline but in a different state and form. These fumes, are now the fuel used and processed by plants, trees and phytoplankton to produce oxygen for humans to breath, but its still the petroleum in a different state and form, now predominant in air and in water. But this oxygen we then breath combines with various food molecules inside our bodies to form the enzymes to replenish its own cells, have mobility, and think thoughts, thus the books we write and the songs we sing is still the petroleum but in a different state of form. Other read our books and are entertained by our music thus this enjoyment received is still... you guessed it "our original petroleum". Having said that, its now easy to see how everything is matter and exist as one or a combination of the elements known to man and can change its form as necessary.

Sand and water are, give or take a few other ingredients, the elements to produce grass and vegetables. Grass and water, give or take a few others ingredients are the components to raise cattle. Cattle, water, vegetable and give or take a few other ingredients makes man but that is just the overview.

Soil, or mother earth is our origin and our inevitable destination, but before we get there, lets look at the big picture. Our bio-chemical marvels are in fact full-on automated chemical factories run by intelligent software, operating 24-7-365 sometimes for as much as 100 years. The part we play in the scheme of things is to give it a constant supply of essential ingredients and keep it clean and relatively germ free. Not a very difficult task, but should we fail in the germ free department, our bio-chemical marvels has the software to diagnose and auto-repair if given the appropriate components it needs to do this. Restated, our bodies has the ability to heal itself if it has the necessary components with which to effect this. If we look at the example of scurvy, which is caused by a deficiency of vitamin C, we find that the body cannot synthesis its own vitamin C thus presents the symptoms and illness associated with scurvy, however if we give the body the necessary vitamin C, it will heals itself completely (the doctor, doesn't do any healing, he only prescribed the Vitamin). Arthritis is the decay of bone bone and cartilage but this only happened because the body ran out of the raw materials to make bone and cartilage but if given these materials in abundance with reverse the situation completely.

Almost 2500 years ago Hippocrates said "Let food be your medicine and let medicine be your food". He was known as the father of medicine and what he said is only staring to kick into effect in the 21st century.

When we plant a vegetable or fruit seed, it springs into life to bring forth beautiful and tasty offerings for us to eat, but within its fleshy edible parts exists minute particles of elements that it seeked out in the soil, processed it and converted it into a state and form that is edible and digestible by the human body. Lets for arguments sake take calcium.

Calcium is readily found in dolomite rock deposits and in bone, so in order to have an abundant source of calcium we can either grind the calcium rock or the bone into powder form and eat it. Even though our bodies will benefit somewhat from this type of calcium, neither is in a format that is desired and digestible by the human body. If the bones were buried and left to decay, the bacteria within the soil would have broken the bone down and processed it into a state and form digestible to plants, whereas dolomite is originally in the state and form for consumption by plants. Now, when the plant consumes that calcium it converts it into a composite which is the edible state and form of calcium easily absorbed by the human body. So this type of calcium is a thousand times more beneficial and the laboratory synthesized type sold in supermarkets and health shops. This composite form of dolomite and other essential mineral is termed phytonutrients available from http://www.glycomics.co.za/. Phyonutrients are organic nutritional supplements essential for optimum health.

YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT

YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT

The old adage 'garbage in garbage out' doesn't only apply to computers, but more readily to humans. You are, what you eat... so if you eat garbage you are just another pile of ... you guessed right! Many of us live on 'junk food' thus our bodies almost never get the proper nutrition it requires. But be that as it may, there is a DVD of a journalist floating around who ate 'junk food' from a world renown fast food joint for an entire month (you may have seen it) as an experiment in nutrition. He was consuming a up-sizeded chicken or beef burger with french fries and soda including dessert, for breakfast, lunch and supper, daily. Within 20days he gained numerous kg's in weight and even increased a few clothing sizes yet looked the epitome of health. But, according to the medical doctor tending to this experiment, he had one foot in the grave, he wasn't going to make it into the next month. Like many of us, he was overfed but under nourished.

Our bodies are amazing bio-chemical machines, composed of some 6 billion cells, each feasting daily from the our smorgasbord of blood ingredients. At least 5 million of these cells die off but are replaced daily. Just think about it, the hair on your head are not the same strands you were born with, since its probably been cut numerous times. The same applies to your skin, which became dust-mite food or vacuum cleaner food over the years. Even your nails that you bite, are all cells that are constantly replenished. However, in order for our bodies to do this daily and efficiently, we need a constant supply of the essential vitamins, minerals, trace elements and essential oils. Thus, if any of these are absent from our diet, some of our cells will go hungry or go on a hunger strike, leading to all sorts of deficiencies and illness because they require specific ingredients to make the enzymes our bodies need to function properly. Scurvy has been liked to a marked deficiency in vitamin C, Beri-beri was linked to a deficiency in vitamin B1, Rickets was linked to a deficiency in vitamin D, etc...

Regardless of eating fresh fruit and vegetable, our modern day green harvesting policies makes it virtually impossible for our bodies to get a sufficient amount of glyconutrients because it was picked too early. What are glyconutrients anyway, you may ask? In a nut shell, It is in essence the missing component in fruits and vegetables when they are not sun ripened. Most of our fruits and vegetables are picked well before ripening so that it can be taken to market and a reletive shelf life. Often these fruits are artificially ripened in warehouses by means of gas heat, meaning never able to grow the essential glyconutrients in the presence of the sun. But fear not, all's not lost. There is a technology company out there that grows glyconutrients and own the patents for the technology to stabilise these glyconutrients. The controversy over vitamin suppliments will continue but it is purported by MIT that glyconutrients is The disruptive technology that will change the way we life our lifes, forever. It was rated one of the top ten technologies since the invention of the cell phone and destined to become the world's next trilloin dollar business.
